Question 1

How do I start a custom cutting board order in Chicago?

Accepted Answer

You can contact us with the basic details—size, wood, and how you plan to use it—and we'll guide you from there. We'll help you choose the right hardwood, confirm dimensions, and finalize the finish so your board is made specifically for you.

Question 2

What wood species can I choose from?

Accepted Answer

We work with the same premium, kiln-dried hardwoods we use in our custom furniture and tops—Walnut, Cherry, Ash, Elm, Hickory, and Oak. Because we mill and select our own material, we can match the look and performance you want.

Question 3

Can you make the board to an exact size or layout?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Everything we build is made to order. If you need a specific length, width, or thickness for your kitchen or prep space, we'll size the board precisely and finish it cleanly so it fits your setup.

Question 4

Do you offer pickup, local delivery, or shipping?

Accepted Answer

Yes. You can pick up from us, we can arrange delivery in the Chicago area, or we can ship your cutting board. We already do this for our custom pieces, so we can do the same for boards.

Question 5

Can you match a cutting board to other pieces you've built for me?

Accepted Answer

We can. Since we build tables, countertops, and serving boards in-house, we can use the same species and similar finish so everything looks cohesive.

Question 6

What makes your cutting boards different from store-bought options?

Accepted Answer

We hand-select the hardwood, build the board in our shop, and finish it like a real piece of custom woodwork. You're not choosing from a mass-produced size—we're building a board that's intended to be used, seen, and kept.

Question 7

Do you make food-safe cutting boards?

Accepted Answer

Yes. We build cutting boards to be used in the kitchen, so we finish them with food-safe products suitable for contact with food. If you prefer a specific finish or plan to use the board for serving, we can recommend the best option.

Question 8

Can you add juice grooves, handles, or other features?

Accepted Answer

We can. Because we build each board individually, we can add practical details like a juice groove, finger holds, or a wider edge profile. Tell us how you cook and we'll build the board to match that.

Question 9

What's the typical turnaround time for a custom cutting board?

Accepted Answer

Timing depends on the size, wood selection, and current shop workload, but in most cases we can give you a clear timeframe when you place the order. Since we already produce custom wood projects, we schedule cutting boards right into our workflow.

Question 10

Can I see or choose the actual slab or boards before you build it?

Accepted Answer

If you want to be involved in the look, we can show you the hardwood options we have on hand—just like we do for tables and countertops. That way you know exactly what grain and color you're getting.
